奧斯卡最佳影片獎（academy award for best picture），由美國電影藝術與科學學院通過業內人士投票，頒給每年得票最高的電影，奧斯卡金像獎之一。
此獎項起初被稱為最佳作品獎（best production）,至1931年改稱為最佳影片（best picture)。

歷屆沿革
奧斯卡第一屆時（1927-28年，於1929年頒發），“最佳影片獎”頒發了兩座，一座最佳作品獎（best production）頒給了史詩片《》，另一座傑出藝術作品獎（unique and artistic production）則頒給了藝術片《》。這兩座獎都是授予當年度最傑出的影片，其表現手法兩異但同樣為優秀的電影。而事實上，評審和片廠老闆們卻以他們的影響力來改變了影片的獲獎。老闆louis b. mayer就因不喜歡自己公司的所拍的《》的寫實手法，而無奈地將獎項頒給了《》。隔年，奧斯卡又改回單一的“最佳作品獎”，並決定《鐵翼雄風》是這個獎項之得獎影片，而使得《鐵翼雄風》總被誤作是頭一年度唯一的最佳影片。
經過多年的發展，於1944年起，奧斯卡將最佳影片獎的提名數，限制在五部。但從第八十二屆（2010年）起則增加為10部，以及第八十三屆（2011年）是10部，從第八十四屆（2012年）開始奧斯卡最佳電影提名數又減少為9部，一直延續至今。
有人認為，非英語系的電影只會入圍最佳外語片，也就是說，只有相當少數的非英語電語，能夠因為其藝術價值，而獲入圍最佳外語片以外的其他獎項。因此，奧斯卡最佳影片獎幾乎可稱作是“奧斯卡最佳‘英語’片獎”。時至2014年止，僅有十部非英語電影獲得最佳影片獎的提名，分別是1937年的《(la grande illusion)》（法語）（1939年第11屆）、1969年的《(z)》（法語）（1970年第42屆）、1971年的《(utvandrarna)》（瑞典語）（1973年第45屆）、1973年的《(viskningar och rop)》（瑞典語）（1974年第46屆）、1994年的《(il postino)》（義大利語）（1996年第68屆）、1997年的《(la vita è bella)》（義大利語）（1999年第71屆）、2000年的《臥虎藏龍》（漢語國語）（2001年第73屆）、2006年的《(硫磺島からの手紙)》（日語）（2007年第79屆）、2011年的《(the artist)》（默片）（2012年第84屆）、2012年的《(amour)》（法語）（2013年第85屆）。
